Hockey: Australia Rout India 4-2

IPOH, March 6 (Bernama) -- World number one, Australia notched up their third win at the 27th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament when they downed India 4-2 at Azlan Shah Stadium here, today.

The Kookaburras began slowly today, scoring only one goal in the first half in the 28th minute via captain Mark Knowles after he was awarded a penalty stroke.

In the second half, Australia stepped up the pace to net three more goals through Aran Zalewski (35th minute) and Daniel Beale (38th minute) as well as Blake Govers (40th minute) in a penalty corner.

India who refused to take the thrashing, hit back with two field goals by Ramandeep Singh in the 52nd and 53th minutes.

Earlier in the evening, England trounced Ireland 4-1.

Barry Middleton and Sam Ward became heroes for England after assisting their team to earn three points in the match today.

Barry scored in the 15th minute through a penalty corner and field goal in the 60th minute while Sam was on target with field goals in the 37th and 51st minutes.

Not to be intimidated, Julian Dale made a run to score a field goal in the 39th minute for Ireland.
