Tiger Photo On Social Media Taken In India

Last Update: 05/03/2018

KUANTAN, March 5 (Bernama) -- The Pahang Department of Wildlife and National Parks today denied that the picture of a Malayan tiger circulated on social media since Saturday was taken in Gambang near here.

Its director, Ahmad Azhar Mohammed, said it had been established that the photograph was taken in India and it was downloaded from the Internet.

"I was informed today that some people had used the same picture and claimed that the tiger was photographed in Mersing, Johor," he said when contacted by Bernama here.

Ahmad Azhar said the department conducted a check at Jalan Lepar in Gambang and found no evidence to support the claim that a tiger had been there.

"Nevertheless, we took follow-up action and set up camera traps to gather evidence," he said, adding that the department would conduct monitoring for a week.
