Kajai Journalism Award Open To All Print Media
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The Kajai Award, the highest recognition for journalism in Malaysia given by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), is now open to competition by all print media and not limited to the Malay press.
The prize money accompanying the award, introduced 25 years ago, has been increased to RM20,000 from RM10,000 previously and the winner will also receive a gold medal worth RM2,000.
MPI chairman Datuk Ahmad Talib, who announced the changes today, said the coming journalism award presentation ceremony by MPI would be held on Nov 28 here.
The Kajai Award winner will receive the prize from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, he told reporters after a sponsorship signing ceremony for journalism awards between MPI and Petronas.
Petronas was represented by its President and Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Hassan Marican while Ahmad signed for MPI.
The award ceremony this year would be known as "Malaysian Journalism Award MPI-Petronas" with Petronas sponsoring the prizes from 2005 to 2009 worth a total of RM1 million.
Ahmad said four new categories would be introduced this year, including the Petronas Environmental Journalism Award for the print and electronic media category that provides RM7,000 in cash for the winners.
The other new categories are Best Feature Writer, Best Photo Essay and Special Jury Award.
The Jury Award is meant for individuals who excelled in their journalism career and the recipient would be chosen by the jury with the approval of the Malaysian Press Institute.
