Crew Member Goes Missing After Marine Patrol Boat Sinks

SABAK BERNAM, June 28 (Bernama) -- A crew member went missing after a marine police patrol boat, which was on a routine mission, sank in heavy seas off Pasir Panjang, Sekinchan here Wednesday.

The fate of Const Mohd Juriya Awang, 27, is still not known and intensive search and rescue efforts by police, Fire and Rescue Services Department, Fisheries Department and local villagers have been mounted to locate him.

A Fire Department spokesman told Bernama the incident happened at 5.30am about two nautical miles off Pasir Panjang.

Two of Mohd Juriya's colleagues, Cpl Ahmad Zubairi Shahudin and Const Mohd Khairi Seman, who were with him in the boat, however, managed to swim to shore, according to the spokesman.
