Bank Islam Contributes RM84,000 Zakat To Kpg Datu/Kpg Hilir Fire Victims

SIBU, June 28 (Bernama) -- Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) today gave zakat amounting to RM84,000 to the 597 victims from 144 families of the recent Kampung Datu/Kampung Hilir fire victims here.

Its General Manager (Strategic Relations) Wan Ismail Wan Yusof handed over the cheque for the amount to a community leader, Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Adruce at the Masjid An Nur.

He also handed over collections by the Friday congregation from the Surau Wakaf Dawjee Dadabhoy at Menara Bank Islam amounting to RM14,350.70.

In his brief address, Wan Ismail said the bank would continue to be active in helping those in need of help.

"We hope our contributions can ease the burden of the victims with the approaching Ramadan month," he said.

Meanwhile, Bank Islam said in a statement that it had set aside RM2.7 million this year for its corporate social responsibilty programmes.

In another development, some 27 of the affected familes will move to their new temporary housing tomorrow morning.

Of the number, 18 will move to the Housing Development Commission flats in Sibujaya and nine to a similar flat in Rantau Panjang.

Next Saturday, another 44 familes will move to Sibujaya and five to Rantau Panjang.
