KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Provider of products and services in Shariah-based financial protection, Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd (Takaful IKHLAS) in partnership with the Malaysian Red Crescent (PBSMM), recently sent five of its employees as volunteers for the humanitarian mission to assist the Padang earthquake victims in Indonesia.

The Takaful IKHLAS team, which was based at the Selasih Hospital in Padang for five days starting Oct 13, brought donations such as towels, blankets, baby milk and food, biscuits, instant noodles and other goods which valued over RM20,000 to relief the burden of the earthquake victims.

According to a statement released by Takaful IKHLAS Tuesday, a monetary donation of RM10,000 was also handed over to PBSMM.

Team Leader Zazali Yatim said the donations were distributed to 850 families in Padang and Pariaman.

"There were some minor tremors when we were in Padang but thankfully nothing untoward happened to us, Alhamdulillah," Zazali said in the statement.

"The Takaful IKHLAS humanitarian mission team has learnt much from the experience as well as the close cooperation with PBSMM," he added.

West Sumatra was hit by a 7.6-Richter earthquake on Sept 30, which extracted a heavy death toll and massive destruction in Padang.

Takaful IKHLAS, which started its operation in July 2003, is a subsidiary of MNRB Holdings Berhad, an investment holding company listed in the main board of Bursa Malaysia of which the major share holder is Permodalan Nasional Berhad through Skim Amanah Saham Bumiputera.
