KABUL, June 21 (Bernama) -- At least 20 militants and three Afghan security personnel were killed after the Taliban's attempt to overrun Jaghato district in Ghazni province were repulsed on Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.
Spokesman for the eastern provincial government Mohammad Aref Nuri said the Taliban militants launched a major offensive on security checkpoints in Jaghato district early on Thursday.
"The Afghan security forces retaliated, forcing the militants to flee after leaving 20 bodies behind and 10 others injured. Four security personnel were also injured in the fighting.''
Mohammad Aref said government forces would continue to pursue the militants to ensure law and order in Jaghato and the adjoining areas.
The Taliban had intensified their offensive after the ceasefire ended on Sunday night.
