PRAGUE, May 17 (Bernama) -- Czech Republic's Zlin Zoo has become the first outside Asia to breed the spotted wood owl, a rare species of so-called earless or wood owls, Xinhua news agency reported.
Zoo spokeswoman Romana Bujackova said on Wednesday, the newborns hatched on April 15 were doing well.
The forest of Southeast Asia is home to the spotted wood owl (strix seloputo).
Meanwhile, zoologist Vaclav Straub said Zlin Zoo received four owls in August last year, from a partner zoo park in Indonesia.
Breeders visited the owls only while feeding as the birds were continuously under camera recording.....
