PUL-E-KHUMRI (Afghanistan), March 14 (Bernama) -- Afghan forces arrested four Taliban militants including key commander Qari Bakhtiar outside Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province in the north, said army spokesman Nasratullah Jamshidi on Wednesday.
"Acting upon intelligence report, the security forces raided a Taliban hideout in Chashma-e-Shir just outside Pul-e-Khumri and arrested Qari Bakhtiar and three others on Tuesday night," he told China's Xinhua news agency.
Qari Bakhtiar was responsible for organising roadside bombings and targeting security personnel in Baghlan province and his arrest could prove a major setback for the Taliban militant group.
Meanwhile, another army spokesman for northern region, Mohammad Hanif Rezai said Qari Aslam, another Taliban commander in Baghlan province, was among those arrested outside Pul-e-Khumri.
The Taliban militant group has not commented on the arrests. --BERNAMA.....
