BRASILIA, March 8 (BERNAMA-NNN-PRENSA LATINA)--Brazilian parliamentarians and social movements reiterated their support for former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) denied the habeas corpus requested by the former leader´s defence.
"Lula faces a political coup," said Workers Party (PT) deputy Benedita da Silva, in statements published by Brasil de Fato news site.
According to the legislator, the process against the former president is influenced by political rather than juridical decisions, because the objective is to put him out of the elections next October.
Also the national president of the Communist Party of Brazil, Luciana Santos agrees with that opinion.
'They try to hide what is at stake, but it is increasingly clear: they want to withdraw from the electoral dispute a candidate who has extraordinary potential to resume a national and sovereign project," said the deputy.....
