NEW DELHI, March 6 (Bernama) -- A mob pulled down the statue of Russian communist icon Vladimir Lenin in India's northeastern state of Tripura after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the state election.
Lenin''s statue in the College Square in Belonia, about 110 km from the state capital Agartala, was brought down by an excavator operated by a mob shouting slogans.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's right wing BJP (Hindu nationalist) won February's state election, thus ending the Left Front's 25-year rule in Tripura.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist), the dominant party in the defeated Left Front, alleged many parts of Tripura were hit by political violence following the March 3 election results.
Bijan Dhar, a state party leader, said hundreds of activists were attacked, houses set on fire and party offices vandalised by his political opponents.....
