Blatter Backs Morocco's Bid To Host 2026 World Cup

Last update: 23/02/2018

RABAT, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Thursday endorsed Morocco's bid to host the 2026 World Cup, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

In a tweet on his official twitter account, Blatter said "Morocco would be the logical host!, It is time for Africa again!"

Referencing to Morocco's competing joint bid from the US, Mexico and Canada, Blatter said co-hosting was rejected by FIFA after the 2002 Korea Japan World Cup.

Last August, Morocco submitted their application to host the 2026 World Cup, positioning themselves as the sole challengers to the joint north American bid.

This is Morocco's fifth bid to host the World Cup after unsuccessful bids for the 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010 tournaments.

FIFA will decide the 2026 World Cup host at its congress on June 13 in Moscow, Russia, on the eve of the opening match of the 2018 World Cup.....
