KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- National hockey squad head coach Stephen Van Huizen says that S. Kumar will remain as the country´s number one goalkeeper.
He said although the veteran had reached the age of 38, and just returned to training after a six-month suspension, he looked sharp and deserved to don the number one jersey for the tour to Argentina from May 25 to June 2 .
"Kumar has shown that he is still one of the best goalkeepers, his return has boosted the confidence and fighting spirit in the team. These matches are very important for him because he missed two tournaments (Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and Commonwealth Games) before this.
"But I think he has trained very well, proven to us in training that he is not far from where he is. I think he has done his work while he was away," he told a press conference when announcing the list of 20 players selected for the series at the National Hockey Stadium here, today.
Kumar was handed down a six-month suspension after testing positive for sibutramine in a doping test during the Asia Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh, last October.....
