GOLD COAST, April 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's chief-de-mission Huang Ying How has voiced out recommendations upon completion of his 'tour' to lead the Malaysian contingent in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
He first suggested that the periodisation plan should be planned to tailor to the best peaking option for each participating athlete.
Huang said back-to-back tournaments and immediate tournaments before and after the Commonwealth Games could possibly induce fatigue, mental tiredness and injury that could lead to under-performance.
"My message to MSN (Majlis Sukan Negara) and ISN (Institut Sukan Negara) is this. Can we perform if we are taking part in major tournaments, before and after? This is something that the team has to look at because there is the risk of fatigue, mental tiredness and injury or sickness.
"For example like cycling, in three weeks prior, the riders went to Poland for the World Championships. In terms of risk, the risk is high. Risk of injury after the major game, risk of you peaking for the world, how are you going to peak for the Commonwealth Games ...like (Mohd) Azizulhasni (Awang), he fell sick due to viral (fever).....
