SEPANG, April 16 (Bernama) -- The absence of international championships during the preparation phase was a factor contributing to the failure of the national shooting squad to shine at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia which concluded yesterday.
National shooter, Jonathan Wong Guanjie said exposure in international tournaments is important to assist shooters adapt themselves to the actual competition environment.
According to Jonathan, after the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games which ended in August last year, he did not participate in any international championships to prepare for the Commonwealth Games.
"We lack the feel of training for competition, more so when the pressure builds up during intensive challenges," he told reporters upon his return with the shooting squad from Gold Coast at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today.
The shooter from Melaka finished the 10m air pistol in the eighth position with 112 points when he qualified for the final in the third place among 24 shooters.....
