KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- The national rugby sevens squad are set to gain valuable experience when they undergo a week-long training with former New Zealand All Blacks Sevens team captain Derek Jamie Forbes, who is scheduled to arrive on March 24.
Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) president Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya said the star, better known as DJ Forbes, would join the local coaching line-up in Ipoh to prepare the national squad for the 2018 Commonwealth and Asian games.
Although it is only for a week, Shahrul said he hoped the presence of the world-class rugby icon who led his national side to clinch the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medal, and the Sevens World Cup title in 2013 would be beneficial to the team.
"I believe with the vast experience he has, the stint (week-long training) will definitely be a valuable experience for the players.
"Forbes's presence is very much looked forward to, as he is a great and well-known player. He will assist the team in terms of tactics and technical skills, as well as share useful inputs to help streamline the team's preparation," he told Bernama today.....
