Malaysia To Send 52-strong Contingent To 2019 Abu Dhabi Special Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will be represented by 52 athletes and officials in seven sports at the Abu Dhabi Special Olympics World Summer Games next year.

The officials sports for the 2019 Abu Dhabi Special Olympics World Summer Games are aquatics, athletics, bocce (rpt: bocce), bowling, football, equestrian and golf.



Special Olympics Malaysia chairman, Nur Azida Daud said the athletes will be selected through the National Games from May 4-6.

"SOM plans to send a delegation of 52 athletes and coaches to Abu Dhabi. However, SOM needs to raise funds of at least RM500,000 to bring a full contingent, we need a direct funding requirement at approximately RM20,000 per athlete, include the cost of coaches and support staff," she said.

She added to reach their funding goals, SOM with Special Olympics Kuala Lumpur will hold a concert themed ?Music is the Universal Language of Love' that will feature performances by Zamil Idris and Juwita Suwito on April 21 at Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya.....
