KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today stressed that the ministry would not protect any individual including national athletes involved in match fixing.

He said athletes who were tainted by immoral scandals could tarnish the good name of the country as one of the major sports powers in Southeast Asia, and that they should face disciplinary action if found guilty.

"If they have involved in match fixing, then they must face (the music) and defend themselves on their own.

"If found guilty, it is a criminal offence. As for me, there is no protection to anyone involved in match fixing," he told a press conference on the announcement of UEM Group Berhad's sponsorship for the Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) here today.

It was reported that two professional badminton players were being investigated by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for their alleged involvement in match fixing scandal.....
