KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- A daunting task awaits the national women's hockey squad as the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) targets at least the bronze at the 2018 Asian Games to be held in Jakarta and Palembang from Aug 18 to Sept 2.
MHC President Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said although the Muhammad Dharmaraj Abdullah squad was now ranked fifth among Asian countries, the target for the Malaysian Tigress team was achievable due to the support and assistance given to the team.
"We feel that they can achieve that (target) with all the support and assistance that MHC has given to them, as well as the money we have spent.
(We will do) whatever it takes (and) we will support them. They have gone to China this year and there are more plans in store for them.
Although some women's hockey champions come from Asia, we still believe that we can achieve the target," he told reporters after attending a working committee meeting with the National Sports Council, National Sports Institute and the Education Ministry here today.....
