World Champions Dominate SAM-100Plus 2017 Sports Awards

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- National athletes with world champion status appear to be dominating the list of candidates for Best Athlete and Best Paralympic Athlete awards at the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) -100Plus Awards 2017 scheduled on March 1.

A total of five candidates who have brought top honours to the country at international arena will be vying for the Best Athlete award among them were national track cycling champion Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, Cheong Jun Hoong (diving) and national wushu athlete Wong Wen Son.

Also listed were national women's Duilian trio of Phoong Eyin, Loh Ying Tin and Tan Cheong Min as well as national women's tenpin team led by Shahlin Zulkifli, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Sin Li Jane, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi and Natasha Roslan.

The Best Paralympic Athlete award will have four candidates namely Abdul Latif Romly and Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli from athletics, Cheah Liek Hou (badminton) as well as Muhammad Afiq Rizan and Muhammad Khairul Adha Rasol in tracking cycling.

SAM president, Ahmad Khawari Isa said the ceremony is a platform to recognise the best among the country's top athletes every year.....
