KLANG, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- Commonwealth Games Chef-de-Mission (CDM), Huang Ying How is confident the experienced and well prepared lawn bowls squad are capable of improving their medal haul at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia from April 4-15.

The preparations, including a series of test matches against the main challengers and early training at the Broadbeach Bowls Club - the event's venue for the upcoming Games - have left Huang brimming with confidence.

"I am very happy to meet them (players) today. They are a very cohesive team, positive, experienced and well prepared. Among the 12 players I met today, six have experience playing in the Commonwealth Games.

"From my understanding, this is the way to prepare the squad go to the Games early, earlier than most of the contingent, to make sure they are ready. They have done all their bookings, including food, where they would go for gym training, and so on," he told reporters after visiting the squad at the Bayuemas Indoor Lawn Bowls Stadium here today.

Huang said the lawn bowls squad also received support from the National Sports Institute in terms of dieting, games analysts, conditioning and medication, in order to be ready to rub shoulders with the best lawn bowlers, including host Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Scotland.....
