Kedah Looks Set To Produce More Squash Athletes

ALOR SETAR, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Kedah is set to groom more squash champions when the RM7.8-million Squash Complex in the state is complete at the end of the year.

Kedah State Sports Council (MSN) director, Mohd Rizal Mohd Radzi said construction of the complex near Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium in Jalan Suka Menanti, here, would be starting soon after getting the green light from the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS).

"We (MSN) are thankful to Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin for approving the application to build the complex. Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah is scheduled to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony for the complex next month.

"The complex is expected to be completed by this year or early 2019 and when ready, we are confident Kedah will produce more great squash players," he told reporters here today.

Earlier, Mohd Rizal with more than 100 people welcomed the return of junior squash players, K. Sehveetrraa, Aifa Azman, Aira Azman and S. Sivasangari who were champions of the 2018 British Junior Open championship in four categories from Under-13 to Under-19 in Birmingham upon their arrival at Sultan Abdul Halim Airport.....
