ALOR SETAR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah today denied claims that the state government had cancelled the setting up of the proposed Lee Chong Wei Badminton Academy at Sungai Petani, some time ago.
Ahmad Bashah said the setting up of the academy was still in the discussion stage between the state government and a private sector involved, and according to the initial proposal, the academy was proposed at a 60 hectare site that include a racing circuit.
"We have identified a 60 hectare site where 20 hectares would be allocated for the academy, 20 hectares for the racing circuit and the remaining 20 hectares for future development. The setting up of the academy is still in the discussion stage with the private sector because they will be the ones who will be investing in the project," he told the state assembly when answering a question from Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir (PPBM-Ayer Hitam), today.
Mukhriz had wanted to know if the proposal to build the academy was cancelled.
