KUCHING, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- The riot that took place at the State Stadium in Petra Jaya here at the end of a Malaysia Cup football match last Saturday was not a reflection of Sarawakians' peaceful culture, Sarawak Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan said here, Monday.
He said the incident after the match which saw the state team tied 1-1 with Perak, should be seen as an isolated case.
"We should calm down fast and get across (to catch) the culprits. I don't think that this (incident) is (caused by) sentiment. This is not a common phenomenon in Sarawak even though we love football," he told reporters after attending the first Sarawak grand championship golf tournament prize presentation here.
It was officiated by Chief Minister, Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
"I think the mentality that we have here (in Sarawak) is not that bad as compared to what happened elsewhere," Mawan said.....
