Injury Forces Men's Doubles Pair To Concede Defeat

COPENHAGEN, (Denmark), Aug 27 (Bernama) -- A back injury dashed the hopes of men's doubles pair Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah in the BWF Badminton World Championships when the pair conceded a walkover to Taiwan's Lee Sheng Mu/Tsai Chia Hsin in the second set while trailing 7-11.

The pair who lost the first set 11-21, had to concede defeat when V Shem could not continue the match despite taking a medical break during the second set at the Ballerup Super Arena.

"At the start of the match I started experiencing pain in my back but decided to continue but it became worst whenever I tried to retrieve shots from the back of the court," he told reporters after the match.

V Shem said he had suffered the injury during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games last month but decided to compete in the World Championships said the 25-year-old.

"It was a difficult decision to make but I did not want to aggravate the injury and jeopardize my chances to play in the Asian Games because the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea starts on Sept 19.....
