NANJING, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent silenced the critics by winning a third medal, a silver, in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG 2014) through archer Muhamad Zarif Zolkifli.

Muhamad Zarif who competed in the Recurve mixed pairs, added a silver to Malaysia's previous tally of one gold and one silver when the eighth day of competition ended here Sunday.

The silver medal feat at the Fangshan Archery Range boosted chef-de-mission Wong Pei Tty's hopes of more medals from the young Malaysians who had earlier come under heavy criticism after failing to win any medals at the start of games, especially the first four days.

Malaysia's first gold medal was won by shuttler Cheam June Wei through the mixed doubles while diver Loh Zhiayi added a silver from the women's 10m platform individual competition.

The current achievement also surpassed the two silver medal feat by diver Pandelela Rinong at the inaugural YOG hosted by Singapore.....
