KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's world number one, Datuk Nicol David failed to make the final of the 2014 CIMB Malaysian Open Squash Championships when she was defeated by Egypt's Raneem El Weleily Friday.
In today's semi-finals at the NU Sentral mall here, the 30-year-old Nicol started off brilliantly by winning the opening set with a 11-7 score but Raneem made it 1-1 when she took the second set, 11-6.
Despites having local supporters cheering her on, Nicol appeared to lose momentum in the other two sets which saw Raneem seal the match with scores of 11-8 and 13-11 in a match that lasted for 52 minutes.
"Raneem played very good squash today and I also played really well. I think she knew if she did not put in the pressure and if she does not play good shots, I would definitely take control.
"The game was really tight and she did not give any room for me to step up my game. She was sharp and her drop shots also worked well. She deserve this win," said Nicol.....
