Perak To Assist Young Chess Player Compete In Asia Chess Championship

IPOH, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Perak state government has come forward to sponsor young chess player Puteri Rabiatul Adawiyah Mat Zaki, seven, to a tune of RM5,000, to assist her participation in the 10th Asia Junior Chess Championships in Taichung City, Taiwan from Aug 23 to 30.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said he hoped the sponsorship from the state government would help Puteri Rabiatul in her quest to achieve a good result.

"We believe the commitment and planning for the development of the sport will hoist the name of the country by achieving good results," he told reporters after chairing a state exco meeting, in Ipoh, Wednesday.

Zambry said the state government was always committed and concerned with the development of sports in the state and the country in general, to unearth young talent for the future.

Puteri Rabiatul who started her chess career as early as 2011 when she represented the country in a competition in New Delhi, India at the age of four was honoured as the youngest chess player to represent the country, by the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF).....
