NANJING, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Mohana Mariappen, Malaysia's sole taekwondo exponent in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG 2014), failed to get past the quarter-final stage here, after losing to Colombia's Yopasa Gmez Debbie.

Mohana who competed in the women's Below 63kg and made it to the quarterfinals as targetted, lost 1-15 to the lanky Colombian who used her long legs to score points at will, at Hall D of the Nanjing International Exppo Centre.

Having garnered fourth spot at the 2014 YOG qualifying championship at the World Taekwondo Youth Championship, Taiwan in March had hoped to contribute a medal to the Malaysian contingent.

"I had prepared well for the competition but everything fell apart today because my opponent who had a better reach with her long legs, managed to score many points," she told Bernama.

National back up squad coach Sarawanan Subramaniam said despite the loss, he was satisfied with the overall performance of Mohana.....
