NANJING (China), Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysian national junior equestrian athlete Praveen Nair Mathavan is determined to return home with a medal from the Youth Olympic Games 2014 (YOG 2014) here despite the tough going at the second edition of the largest youth sports championships in the world.

Praveen Nair, riding Arkansas in the international group show jumping and men's individual show jumping events, said he hoped to garner at least a bronze medal in the men's individual show jumping event starting on Saturday at Hall D of the Xinzhuang Equestrian Centre.

"I will try my best to contribute a medal regardless of its colour as it is important for me and my country," he told Bernama here Wednesday.

The Form Five student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Maxwell, Kuala Lumpur, said he learned a lot while in Nanjing and that would come in handy in the future.

"Here (in Nanjing), I learned various new techniques and exchanged views with other riders, especially those trained in the European and Arab countries, and who have vast experience in equestrian," he said.....
