MELAKA, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Eighteen teams are competing in the 2014 National Under-19 Youth Cup football tournament which started in Melaka Monday.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Amin said the teams were from 14 states, Sekolah Sukan Tengku Mahkota Ismail, the Malaysian Indian Sports Council, the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Royal Police Force.
He said the championship was a platform to find new quality players to represent the country.
"We have a technical team which will view and select players who will be absorbed into the school sports and Under-19 teams (Harimau Muda C) or Under-21 (Harimau Muda B)," he told reporters after attending a dinner function organised for the championship here yesterday.
Also present were the Melaka Health and Development Exco Datuk Ab Rahman Ab Karim and FAM vice president Datuk Affandi Hamzah.....
