KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- About 100 local golfers will be vying for a single slot to the 2014 CIMB Classic tournament via the Sapura Kencana National Qualifier, set to tee-off from Aug 25-27, at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara, here.
Executive Director of the CIMB Classic, Todd Rhinehart said, the tournament will use the 54-hole stroke play format where the winners will also walks away with RM22,000 prize purse.
He noted that among the players who have confirmed their participation in the qualifying tournament are two-time champion, Danny Chia and 2013 winner Rashid Ismail.
"For me, it's the best opportunity for the professional golfers in Malaysia to compete and clinch a spot in the upcoming CIMB Classic," he told reporters after the announcement of the tournament, here, Tuesday.
Todd said beside the winner of the qualifier, Malaysia's highest ranked players in the latest Official World Golf Ranking, to be released on the Oct 20, will also play in the prestigious CIMB Classic.....
