KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The National rugby squad are unhappy with the decision by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to place it under Category B although rugby had qualified for the Incheon Asian Games in South Korea on merit.
National rugby team manager Fahmy Jalil said the decision was unfair because the squad had qualified for the Asian Games on merit and was also placed under Category A for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
The rugby squad earned automatic qualification to the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games after finishing among the top six teams in the 2013 Asian Sevens Series.
"I feel it is unfair to place us (rugby) under Category B in the last minute because it has totally offset our plans because under Category B, the Malaysian Rugby Union will have to fund the entire cost," he told reporters after an Asian Games selection committee meeting, here today.
The decision was made by the OCM after the team finished the Commonwealth Games campaign in 15th spot together with Barbados, thus failing to meet the 12th spot target.....
