KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Former national doubles player, Koo Kien Keat has gone into "overdrive" fitness training to keep pace with his old partner Tan Boon Heong at the World Championship in Copenhagen, which kicks off on Aug 25.
Kien Keat has gained a little weight and has now hit the courts and the gym to shed the extra pounds.
"I admit I have a a little catching up to do on the fitness front in pairing up with Boon Heong, but I can assure you our chemistry as doubles partners is still there," he told reporters when met at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here today.
The pair qualified for the World Championship by virtue of their eighth ranking in the world. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has given their blessings for them to compete in the meet as Kien Keat quit BAM last March in retiring from international badminton.
This is Kien Keat's first major meet after coming out retirement. The pair, whose partnership lasted seven years until Kien Keat's retirement, were gold medallists at the 2006 Asian Games and the 2007 All-England.....
