KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- An independent panel will be set up to conduct a performance audit on the 2011-2014 National Sports Council (MSN) Elite Programme, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said several matters had to be reviewed including the four-year programme to prepare athletes, after performing a post-mortem on the performance of the contingent to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
"In order to understand more deeply the problems of (national sports) associations and our programmes, we have to conduct a performance audit. "The audit will be carried out after the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea," he told reporters after chairing a meeting on the post-mortem of the Commonwealth Games and preparations for the Asian Games, at the National Sports Council here today.
According to Khairy, the membership of the panel would comprise independent bodies with no interest in local sports associations. The national contingent to the Commonwealth Games failed to achieve its target of seven gold medals when it won only six gold, seven silver and six bronze medals in Glasgow.
The failure caused anxiety on the capability of local sport associations in listing athletes to the Asian Games in Incheon in September.....
