GEORGE TOWN, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The Asics Penang Bridge International Marathon may create a new record in the Guinness World Records (GWR) with the most number of runners over a bridge as 60,000 participations have signed up.
Penang Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said an application had been sent to list the championship in the GWR after four consecutive such recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR).
"To obtain recognition by MBR, every organiser must record an increase of 20 per cent to date, our achievement is consistent and we hope to be listed in the GWR this time," he told reporters here Tuesday.
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is scheduled to open the sixth edition of the championship, which was to be held for the first time on the Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge on Nov 16.
The event has five categories, namely men and women's full marathon (42.195km); men and women's half marathon (21km); Open 10km (men and women 18 years and above), Junior 10km (13-17 years) and 7km Fun Run (Larian Ria 7km).....
