KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Amateur Karate Federation (Makaf) are satisfied with the two gold medals won by the back up squad exponents in the Asian Junior Karate Championships which ended here today.
Apart from winning two gold medals, the Malaysian squad finished fourth overall, drawing praise from Makaf President Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam who said the achievement was better than the one gold medal win two years ago.
Malaysia clinched the gold medal in the men's Kata team through Howart Tan, Ivan Oh, Ooi San Hong who beat Kuwait today and men's Kumite Under-52kg through Khavin Rajs who beat Minami Yunosuke from Japan, yesterday.
"We hope to produce more champions in the cadet, junior and Under-21 categories," he told reporters at the closing ceremony held at the Cheras Badminton Stadium, here today.
Iran emerged as the overall champion with 13 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals, followed by Japan with 9 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze while Kazakhstan were third with two gold, three silver and nine bronze medals.....
