SEPANG, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Mental strength was a key factor for national paralympic athlete Jong Yee Khie's success in winning the bronze medal in the 72.1kg powerlifting category at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Jong, who was very excited at winning the medal for the national contingent, said competing with athletes of other nations required strong psychological preparations to maintain the performance and focus.
"I was not aiming at winning a medal this time, I just wanted to lift the best weight, but when I saw that the results were getting better, I worked at my mental strength and won the bronze," he said when met at the KL International Airport (KLIA), here Monday.
A gold medal winner at the Asean Para Games, Jong said the success at the Commonwealth Games this time was a surprise and would spur him to do better at the upcoming Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea in October this year.
"I want to do the best and I am confident I can," he said, while admitting that the toughest competition at the Asian Para Games would be from the Chinese athletes.....
