KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- The national undergraduate badminton squad has created a record of sorts when it won a gold medal at the 2014 World University Badminton Championships (WUC) in Cordoba, Spain which concluded Wednesday.
When contacted, the education ministry's higher education sector (sports division) media coordinator Nur Ekmal Buhari said the maiden gold medal was bagged via the men's doubles through Mohamad Arif Ab Latif and Zulkarnain Zainuddin when they defeated the Chinese pair of Junjie Guo/ Zhijun Zhang 21-16, 21-19 in 30 minutes.
Zulkarnain had earlier collected a silver medal in the men's singles final when he was beaten by China's Huan Guo 15-21, 21-15, 20-22.
Overall, the national undergraduate badminton squad took home a haul of one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
The three bronze medals were contributed by Mohamad Arif Ab Latif in the men's singles, and Vountus Indra Mawan Saniru/Lee Meng Yean and Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid/ Fei Cho Soong in the mixed doubles.....
