Commonwealth Games: Fatehah Rewrites National Record In 500m Time Trial

GLASGOW, July 24 (Bernama) -- National cyclist Fatehah Mustapa rewrote the national record in the 500m time trial at the 20th Commonwealth Games here Thursday.

However, in the event at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Emirates Arena, Fatehah had to be satisfied with fifth place after clocking 34.667 seconds, overcoming the old mark of 34.898s set by herself.

The gold was won by Anna Meares of Australia who set a new Commonwealth Games record of 33.435s. The previous record was 33.758s which was also set by her.

Her compatriot Stephanie Morton took the silver in 34.079s while Jess Varnish of England had to settle for bronze after posting 34.267s.

Fatehah, when met, said she was disappointed at not being able to contribute a medal in her maiden Commonwealth Games but was satisfied with her achievement today.....
