KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- National men's single player Liew Daren is expected to replace Datuk Lee Chong Wei, as Malaysia's gold medal prospect for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) General Manager Kenny Goh said Liew has been chosen to replace world number one Chong Wei since the latter had sustained a thigh injury during the Indonesian Open last month and currently receiving treatment at the National Sports Institute (NSI).

"The management has identified Liew as the reserve player when the list of names for the multi sports event was submitted to Olympic Council Malaysia (OCM) in May.

"As a natural progression, the management after careful deliberation, selected Liew Daren to replace Chong Wei," he said in a statement here today.

Kenny said players were selected based on, among others, their competition performance, NSI report, players attitude during training and their overall discipline.....
