KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- The national rugby squad preparing for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland from July 24 to Aug 3, are determined to finish among the top 12 teams, and not end up as the whipping boys.
National coach Yusli Ramli said based on the current performance of his charges, the top 12 target was achievable compared with the 16th place finish at the last Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.
Malaysia, drawn in Group C, will have three of the best teams in the world, Samoa, Wales and Papua New Guinea, for company in the group and Yusli said the team's main task would be to reduce the winning margin.
"I hope they will apply everything they have learned in training. They have also played test matches against Australia and South Africa. We are in a tough group and face tough opposition," he told reporters after the names of the players was announced at the National Sports Council, here Thursday.
In 2010, Malaysia suffered a major embarrassment after losing 60-0 to Samoa in the New Delhi games.....
