Failure At The Hague Can Spur Hockey Squad - MHC

Last update: 24/06/2014

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The national hockey squad would like to forget its debacle at The Hague, Netherlands to focus on the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland next month and the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea in September.

The squad under coach Muhammad Dharmaraj Abdullah finished at the bottom of the 12-team table at the World Cup Hockey Championship last month.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) senior vice president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the current target was to enter the final of the Asian Games and secure an automatic slot to the 2016 Olympics.

As for the Commonwealth Games, the National Sports Council is not putting any pressure on the national team.

"We know the intense competition from Australia, New Zealand and England at the Commonwealth Games," he told a media conference on the 2016 Project Squad at MHC headquarters here today.....
