KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- World number one men's singles shuttler, Datuk Lee Chong Wei is the sole Malaysian survivor in the 2014 Japan Open Super Series Badminton Tournament at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
In the quarter-final match held Friday, the 31-year-old Penangite had to muster all his skills before emerging victorious against fifth seed Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia, 21-15, 12-21 and 21-17 in a 62-minute gruelling match.
Chong Wei, who is the top seed will however, face a tricky semi-final match against fourth seed, Japanese Kenichi Tago, Saturday.
Kenichi was earlier, forced to play in a rubber set before defeating the young Dane, Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, 21-16, 16-21 and 21-13 in a 68-minute match.
It was however, the end of the road for Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong who lost 16-21 and 19-21 against the top seeded Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia in the men's doubles category.....
