KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- World number one men's singles shuttler, Datuk Lee Chong Wei Lee easily got into the last eight of the 2014 Japan Open Super Series tournament held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
The 31-year-old Penangite, who is the defending champion, however, was forced to sweat it out before defeating Marc Zwiebler of Germany, 21-13 and 28-26 in the second round match today, according to Badminton World Federation's website;www.bwfbadminton.org.
He will meet fifth seed, Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia after the latter ousted Japanese veteran player Sho Sasaki, 21-12 and 21-18.
It was, however, a different ball game for another Malaysian, Chong Wei Feng who lost tamely, 14-21 and 14-21 to former world number two player, Lin Dan of China.
In the men's doubles, seventh seed, Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong marched into the quarter-finals by defeating Thailand's pair, Maneepong Jongjit and Nipitphon Puangpuapech, 21-13 and 21-17.....
