KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- World number one men's singles shuttler, Datuk Lee Chong Wei advanced to the second round of the 2014 Japan Open Super Series at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gimnasium.
In his opening match today, Chong Wei only took 39 minutes to despatch off Chinese Taipei qualifier, Kueh Chun Shih with a 21-15 and 21-13 win.
The 31-year Penangite, who is also defending champion, will meet Marc Zwiebler of Germany in the second round after the latter defeated K. Srikanth 18-21, 21-13 and 21-8 in another opening tie encounter.
Another Malaysian player, Chong Wei Feng pulled off a major suprise by knocking out sixth seed, South Korean Son Wan Ho 15-21, 21-17 and 21-15 in a gruelling 67-minute match.
Wei Feng, however, has an uphill task in the second round as he will square-off against former world number two shuttler, Lin Dan of China who upstaged compatriot Xue Song 21-15 and 21-18.....
