Nicol Given Honour To Become First Flag Bearer Of Asian Countries During Glasgow Commonwealth Games

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysian squash queen Datuk Nicol David has been given the honour to become the first flag bearer for Asia during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games which starts in Scotland on July 23.

The Olympic Councl of Malaysia (OCM) President Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaa'far said the recognition was a major honour to the country since Nicol's flag would signify the participation of eight Asian countries, namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bangladesh, Maldives, Brunei and Malaysia.

"This is not only an honour to the country but for squash as well," he told reporters during the 100-Day Countdown to 2014 Incheon Asian Games at the OCM Indoor Stadium, here today.

Tunku Imran said shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei would be the flag bearer for Malaysia during the Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, 2014 Incheon Asian Games Sports Operations Director-General, Yoo Jae Han said Incheon was ready to host the Games and the final preparation were currently in progress.....
