KANGAR, June 3 (Bernama) -- Perak convincingly beat Johor 3-1 in the 17th Sukma football final at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium here to end a 12-year wait for the gold medal.
Perak drew first blood through Muhammad Shahrel Fikri Md Fauzi's 7th minute strike before Khairul Asyraf Sahizah added the second 10 minutes later when Johor goalkeeper Sirajuddin EsaÂ fumbled a shot at goal.
Perak continued to dominate the proceedings in the second half but it was Johor who managed to score albeit through a penalty in the 72nd minute but Muhammad Shahrel restored the two goal advantage by adding Perak's third in the 88th minute.
The last time Perak had won the Sukma gold medal was in 2002 after beating Penang 3-1.
Meanwhile, Kedah took the bronze medal after beating host Perlis, 1-0 at the Universiti Teknologi Mara Stadium in Arau, Perlis, earlier today.....
