KANGAR, June 3 (Bernama) -- The hot weather did not prevent Sarawak tennis player Aslina Chua An Ping from winning the goal medal in the Women's singles in her first appearance at the 17th Malaysia Games (Sukma), here, today.
Chua, 18, who trained in Florida, downed host athlete Sharifah Syafeenaz Syed Azmir in the final round of the event, at the Syed Putra Complex's Tennis Court, 6-1 and 6-3.
"My performance in the preliminary rounds of the tennis event was not good. I could not get used to the weather here because, normally, the weather in Florida is not as hot as here.
"My partnership with Ariez Elyaas yesterday lost to Yus Syazlin and Koay. It was a very tough and long fight, took more than two-and-a-half hours to complete," she told reporters here today.
Prior to this, the Chua/Ariez Elyaas Deen Heshaam partnership succeeded in getting the silver medal after it was beaten by the Perlis pair of Yus Syazlin Nabila Yusri/Koay Hao Sheng, 1-6 and 4-6.....
