Ju Pha Clinches Gold In Women's Mass Start

PADANG BESAR, June 2 (Bernama) -- National track cyclist Ju Pha Som Net was surprised that she could deliver her second gold medal through he women's mass start (individual) for hosts Perlis at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) here today.

Towards the final stages of the race, Ju Pha said she was pushing ahead alone in Felda Chuping as two of her compatriots had stopped pedalling.

"I'd never thought that I could win as I'm basically a track rider, not a highway rider. I've never done any specific training for highway events as they require different skills," she said.

Ju Pha finished ahead of the pact in the 123.4 km race in three hours, 31 minutes and 49.18 seconds followed closely by Terengganu's, Ummi Hamimah Mohamad and Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir in the second and third spots in 3:31:49.19s and 3:31:49.25s respectively to clinch the silver and bronze medals.

Ju Pha, who bagged her first gold medal in the criterium event yesterday, said she would undergo training for the Commonwealth Games after Sukma.....
